Lin-Manuel Miranda is Making a New Movie For DisneyPhoto by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Movies News Lin Manuel Miranda
Lin-Manuel Miranda is one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood right now, but so far, most of his post-Hamilton time is being dominated by Disney. He wrote the music for Moana (which he actually started working on before Hamilton became a hit), he’s filming Mary Poppins Returns with Emily Blunt in London soon, and he’s going to work on the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, despite neither the public nor Miranda himself knowing exactly what his role on the movie will be yet.
And yet with all the Disney love, Miranda still has more projects lined up with the House of Mouse. He revealed in an interview with Vulture that he’s working on a new animated movie with Zootopia co-director Byron Howard. Miranda said that Pixar founder John Lasseter put the two in contact and said they should work on something together.
The movie will be built “from the ground up” by Miranda and Howard, but besides that, there’s not much information for Miranda to divulge. He said, “We literally haven’t gotten in the room yet, but we’re plotting.” So it sounds like the movie isn’t much more than a story idea at this point, which means, considering how long it takes to make an animated movie, we won’t be seeing the movie for at least a few years.
Moana lands on Nov. 23, so that’ll have to do for our Lin-Manuel Miranda fix for a little while. Watch the trailer for that film here.
