Watch Phoebe Bridgers Debut Three Brand-New Songs Live in L.A.Photo by Lara Pentelute Music News Phoebe Bridgers
Update, Oct. 30: As you’ll see below, the videos in question have been pulled from YouTube. Stay tuned to Paste for further updates on Phoebe Bridgers’ new music.
Original Story: Phoebe Bridgers released her stellar debut, Stranger in the Alps, in 2017. The past couple of years have had no shortage of new music from Bridgers, bringing her collaborations with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus as boygenius, and with Conor Oberst as Better Oblivion Community Center—but her next solo album is now on the horizon. Her longtime drummer Marshall Vore announced two weeks ago that they had finished recording her forthcoming second record (details here). Vore and Bridgers had already publicized the fact that they would be performing new material at their Mirrors Festival set in London on Nov. 2, but it turns out we don’t have to wait those few more days to hunt for traces on YouTube.
Yesterday (Oct. 27), Bridgers made a special surprise appearance at her boygenius bandmate Dacus’ Los Angeles show at The Moroccan Lounge, where she performed not one, not two, not three, but four unreleased tunes—all while sporting a very on-brand and of-the-season skeleton onesie, no less. They’re as beautiful as one would expect. It’s easy to see why Oberst told Paste he was “kinda partial to” the previously performed, but still-unreleased “Garden Song,” while the heart-wrenchingly tender “Halloween” even calls back to the old boygenius favorite “Souvenir” with its opening line: “I hate living by a hospital.” Dacus also played a new (and possibly never-to-be-released) song, “VBS.”
It looks like this week might be bringing another opportunity to catch Bridgers in L.A., as well: Concert promoter and booker Sid the Cat Presents is promoting a “Hallow’s Eve bash” with Sheepdog Briber (a great “Phoebe Bridgers” anagram) this Wednesday, Oct. 30. Check out some fantastic tarot card-inspired art of Bridgers and her band:
